  5.  There is a major change in the way Citadel does things... This version has
  6.  several new files that need to be installed in your system.
  7.  
  8.    1) cit_messages.sys
  9.  
  10.      This file contains the messages used by Citadel.  about 90% of the
  11.      messages are in this file.  You can customize the messages.  The
  12.      file included has cit:helps as the location of several help files
  13.      so check to see that everything is correct for your system.
  14.      The messages with an "@" are references to files that must be on
  15.      your system(they should be included here or in the helps).
  16.  
  17.      This file goes in the #MSGAREA directory.  The file format is
  18.      included as comments in this file.  All the extra files in the
  19.      archive named *.MSG also go in this area.  On my BBS, the area
  20.      is called "CIT:GENERAL/", this directory contains these files.

  22.      This means you will find references to:
  23.  
  24.       "@cit:general/filename"
  25.  
  26.      You must customize your BBS message file or define CIT:GENERAL
  27.      and put the files there.
  28.  
  29.      If you are updating from a previous version, there is a file
  30.      called MESSAGE.UPDATES that you need to look at to see the changes
  31.      that were made from the .Q02 version.
  32.  
  33.    2) BADNAMES.SYS and BADPASSWORDS.SYS are files that are checked when a
  34.       user is creating their account.  You may use the files included in
  35.       the archive or make your own.  If you do not put these files in
  36.       the room area, Citadel will not check User names and Password
  37.       for validity except to make sure the password is at leas 5 chars
  38.       long and not a duplicate of someone elses.  These work the same
  39.       way BADWORDS.SYS does.  Also is the BADPEOPLE.SYS capability.  This
  40.       file also goes in the ROOMAREA and is used to supress messages from
  41.       any particular user, in any particular room, or from any particular
  42.       system.  There are three field, one line per entry.  You do not need
  43.       this file, it is optional.  It kills any message that matches the
  44.       room, name, and system specified.  A "*" can be used for all.  You
  45.       could for example supress all message from a particular user in a
  46.       room, from any system, if the user is TOM, the ROOM COMPUTER, you
  47.       could have:

  49.       TOM SMITH,COMPUTER,*
  50.  
  51.       The fields are separated by commas.  An entry of "*,*,*" is illegal
  52.       and will generate an error(after all why net at all if your going
  53.       to kill all message).  If TOM SMITH is a real pain and you want to
  54.       suppress all messages in all rooms, change "COMPUTER" to "*" to get
  55.       an entry like:

  57.       TOM SMITH,*,*
  58.  
  59.       This will only affect networked messages you recieve!  Any messages
  60.       entered on your system will be accepted normally.
  61.  
  62.       Note:  This is pure censorship, it deletes the messages totally and
  63.       no other system `downstream' network wise will see the messages or
  64.       even have the option to see them, they are deleted from your system.
  65.       To supress them on only your system turned out to be too much of a
  66.       problem in the software, live with it... I do not recommend using it
  67.       although, a certain user that was a real pain from a local system
  68.       did have this invoked(a test, but he deserved it...)  At one point,
  69.       some systems were fighting in a room, several people were involved
  70.       and you could have an entry like:

  72.        *,BBS LIST,BAD GUYS BBS
  73.  
  74.       That would censor all their messages, no matter what the content.
  75.       I came very close to doing this at one point...  This is an option,
  76.       use it only as a last resort... If the messages really are not a
  77.       problem, ignore them, don't censor them...

  79.    3) The VORTEX checking is on by default.  If you do not wish it, you
  80.       must use the "-vortex" option on the command line.  If you have the
  81.       "+vortex" it will have no effect.
  82.  
  83.    4) +netlog and +netdebug are now more effective and if you do not
  84.       specify either one, Citadel will be very silent during a net session.
  85.       +netdebug messages will give alot more detail and if you want
  86.       +netdebug, you should also specify +netlog.

  89.    5) New parameters for QWK parameters:
  90.  
  91.    #QWKWORKAREA  "<directory>"
  92.      Work directory for temporary files.
  93.    #QWKFILEAREA  "<directory>"
  94.      Where all user data files are saved.
  95.    #QWKMAXROOM     <number>
  96.      This parameter defines the maximum rooms that will be scanned for
  97.      messages for a single packet.  If you set this to say 100 and have
  98.      200 rooms, then a user can only collect 100 rooms with messages at
  99.      a time.  This sets the maximum, users can set a lower number if they
  100.      desired.
  101.    #QWKMAXPACKET  10000
  102.      This parameter defines the manimum number of messages that can be
  103.      collected at one time.  The user can set a smaller limit if desired.
  104.    #QWKNAME      "STRING"
  105.      This parameter defines the name of the QWK packet.  In this example,
  106.      the downloaded packet would be called "STRING.QWK".
  107.    #QWKLOCATION  "MEDFORD, NJ"
  108.      This parameter defines the location of the BBS(displayed by the
  109.      QWK reader).
  110.    6) New parameter for biography
  111.  
  112.    #BIOAREA "<directory>"
  113.  
  114.      This specifies the directory you wish to use for the Biographies
  115.      that users enter.  The default will be the home area so it is a
  116.      good idea to specify" #BIOAREA "bio"  to get the current default.

  140.  If you are starting from scratch and have never run a Citadel before.  You
  141.  need to grab the support and help files.  These files are on the C86 Test
  142.  system and the Amiga Zone.  Please download them from there.  Start with the
  143.  latest version of Citadel 68K.  Read the 68K.man file.  In the very near
  144.  future there will be a full AmigaGuide set of documentation along with a
  145.  re-organized Citadel 68K manual.  Until then, read the existing docs.
  146.  The AmigaGuide version of the docs(partially done) is available for you
  147.  to download.  Look in the Citadel Documentation room on my BBS or D342.lha
  148.  if your looking at a CD collection like Aminet CDs.

  150.  If you are interested in doors, The Amiga Zone has several that will run
  151.  with Citadel 68K.  Any CLI based program will be able to run as a door
  152.  so long as it uses only standard I/O(i.e. getchar(), printf, ect.).

  181.  In this version, you can set the stack to anything larger than 8K
  182.  and Citadel will run.  Anything less and it will stop.  I use a stack of
  183.  30K in my testing because my compiler needs it.  CTDL now does not set
  184.  it's stack, you have to do it.  Citadel does not require more than about
  185.  3K of stack during it's operation.  You can always see what your Citadel
  186.  needs with the SYSOP menu item "I"nformation.  My normal BBS runs use
  187.  the minimum stack of 8192.
  188.  
  189.    It also does not detach from the shell/cli it is started from.
  190.  You have to use "run <nil: >nil: ctdl" to do that.  I leave the window
  191.  open for any error messages.

  213.  All bugs are fixed in the current version.  Please report any
  214.  new ones in the nearest Citadel 68K room.  Utilities are in fair shape,
  215.  I plan to spend some time updating them in the near future.

  218.    Fast Transfers does not seem to be reliable, difficult to test and fix
  219.  
  220.  You will eventually need utiltites, and probably want Zmodem.  Grab them
  221.  as you need them.  Make sure your read this file and 68K.man BEFORE you
  222.  start, it will save you time and effort.
  223.  
  224.  If you use these files, remember that they are FREEWARE.  You do not have
  225.  to send anyone a donation(although none have been refused) to anyone.  If
  226.  you wish help, find a Citadel with the Citadel 68K room, or call one of
  227.  the BBS numbers above.  This is a project that is solely for the advancement
  228.  of networking and communications.  Enjoy it.  The only restriction I would
  229.  place on you is that you may not make commercial use of this program, sell
  230.  it, or make people pay in anyway for it's use.  If you charge your users
  231.  a small fee for the use of your system, you must contact me and get approval.

  233.  Some of the functions are based on shareware programs(like LHA).  These
  234.  programs are not free.  You should send the shareware fee to the author
  235.  for your use with your BBs.

  237.  Pay BBS's may use these programs only after they have this approval.  This
  238.  is a copyrighted work.  All rights are reserved by the people responsible
  239.  for maintaining this code.  It belongs solely to them.  If you have
  240.  questions feel free to contact me by posting a message in the Citadel 68K
  241.  room.  If you wish me to send you a set of disks with all the above files,
  242.  I will do so, but it will cost you $10 for the disks, postage, and my time.
  243.  It is free to download from any of the above BBS locations.  It should not
  244.  be more than 3 880K disk.  The Amiga Citadel is available on the mirrored
  245.  ftp site: wuarchive.wustl.edu for those with FTP access and Portal.  In

  262.   is not listed, post a test seed in a shared room and eventually it will
